Renamed the mutex that prevents multiple access to the API to _api_lock

Moved the header generation into the mutex block, I realised that there is a timestamp in there with seconds. Could be why a call could fail after one failed before it.

Reduced the retry cound to 3, as 10 is a bit excessive considering the call takes 3 seconds to fail.
