Lightning Address

A Lightning Address looks like an email address (e.g. [email protected]) and enables you to send and receive bitcoin payments instantly through the Lightning Network.

How to get a Lightning Address

  • You may already have one if you have a Lightning wallet such as Phoenix, Wallet of Satoshi, ZBD, Strike, or Coinos.
  • Unfortunately, Cash App, Breez, and Muun do not support Lightning Address at this time.
  • If you don't already have one, continue reading to get started.

Option 1: Strike

  1. Get Strike. Strike is available on both iOS and Android. Download the app from the App Store or Google Play.

  1. Create an account. Sign up by providing your phone number, email address, and some personal information for verification.

  2. Tap the user icon (located in the upper right area of the screen) to locate your Lightning Address, which is automatically assigned to you in the format [email protected].

Option 2: Coinos

  1. Go to coinos.io.

Pros and Cons

  • Strike offers push notifications and the option to buy bitcoin, but requires KYC verification and isn't available everywhere.
  • Coinos is faster to get started, works in every jurisdiction, and doesn’t require KYC, but lacks the ability to buy bitcoin. It's a PWA and not an app, but you can add it to your Home Screen on iOS in Safari.
