Arrow keys while waiting for STDIN input shows escape sequence?

If I get Ghostty to read STDIN input (via say read xyz and hitting Enter on the CLI), when using the arrow keys, it displays their escape sequences (^[[D for left arrow, ^[[C for right arrow, ^[[A for up arrow, ^[[B for down arrow) rather than move cursor position or cycle through history.

Pretty frustrating. Anyone know what might be wrong?

Any terminal does this read didnt finish running and doesnt accept those characters so it just prints their escape to the screen
if you do cat without a file youll see the same thing in any terminal as well

I didnt test the enter part, I can do that later

What you mentioned does make sense, but it does this raw output even with the -e flag:

└─▶ read -e xyz
abc^[[A^[[D^[[C^[[A^[[D^[[A^[[C^[[B^[[C^[[A^[[A^[[C^[[A^[[C^[[A^[[B

(Re hitting Enter, note that was only to start the read command, can ignore that).

Even so - you may be right and it could be shell or env dependent, not a Ghostty problem. :-/
