/* --------------------------------- readme --------------------------------- */ /* This is part of the flight simulator 'fly8'. * Author: Eyal Lebedinsky ([email protected]). * * Last update: 21 February 1998 */ This archive has the full sources for all the platforms. Some special msdos support is in a separate archive. After unzipping it (make sure the directory structure is created) do: msdos ===== >msdos\config c8 This is for the c8.00 (vc 1.0/1.5) compiler, or try c7 (c7.00) or qc (QuickC). Now it also has 'b2, 'b3' and 'b4' for the Borland C compilers up to 4.5. Now you can do 'nmake all'. Finally do 'nmake install' to get a proper execution directory. You will need to have cpp.exe and awk.exe which are included in the msdos binary release. With c7.00 use 'nmk' to avoid memory shortage. Qc has problems hacking it, better do it manually as: cd gr nmk cd ..\serial nmk cd ..\net nmk cd ..\fly8 nmk sys (repeat this if it dies until it does it!) nmk fly nmk util nmk parm nmk shape nmk install The executable will be compressed with lzexe, if you do not have it then remove these lines from the makefile (both at the top and in the /msdos and /utils directories). With Borland C, 'make' suffrered a horrible death just looking at the makefile, so I use other make programs for b2/b3. b3 does not work from inside a win31 dos box. msdos/djgpp =========== >djgpp\config v1 There is now a DJGPP port in the DJGPP directory. It was tested with 1.10 1.11 and 1.12. Note that it does not support double buffering except for ET4000 cards or VESA compliant BIOSes. 'nd' can be used if you use NDmake instead of the stock v1 make. 'v2' is now fully supported. unix/X11 ======== Please look at the readme file in the unix directory. It was tested on Linux, Sun SparcStation and SGI Irix. Others had it built on many other unix systems. Amiga ===== Used to work but I have no machine to test on. But the (untested, and now badly out of date) sources are included. mswin ===== Read the readme in /mswin. mswin 3.1 ========= >mswin\config vc Supported and works. However, it is very slow and not recommended (I tested it on a Diamond Stealth Pro with 2MB on a 486DX2/66 and it was SLOW. Good news, Michael did a WinG port and it is much faster, actually playable. To build use: >mswin\config vc wing More good news, we now have winsock support. It uses UDP and is compatible with the unix/udp driver and msdos/pcudp driver. To build use: >mswin\config vc udp NOTE: the supplied makefiles have both WinG and UDP enabled. If you do not build with both then un/comment the necessary lines at the top of 'makefile' and 'mswin\makefile'. The makefiles are designed to go with: >mswin\config vc wing udp mswin NT (VC) ============= same as win 3.1 but add 'nt' to the setup, like in: >mswin\config vc nt wing udp You will need WinG installed (until I start using native NT) for the fast graphics. mswin NT (gcc) ============== For b18 release of GnuWin32 compiler use: >mswin\config gw nt udp There is no library for WinG. There is no lib or header for ddraw. Copy mswin\mmsystem.cyg to the include directory as mmsystem.h. You can also use the MinGnuWim32 compiler, a derivative of the Cygnus GnuWin32 project. >mswin\config mingw nt udp I had some problems with the path being corrupted (I added a dummy first part). 'make': running NT commands creates a batch file that gets overwritten if a make in a subdir does that too. Also, continuation of NT commands do not work properly so the makefile has some rather long lines at times. mswin NT (lcc) ============== It builds with the lcc-win32 compiler. >mswin\config lcc nt udp wing ddraw If you are missing the wing32.lib then I included /mswin/wing32.exp. Build it in /lccpub/buildlib. The wing header and DLL are available for download from microsoft. OS/2 ==== >os2\config xx [dive] [udp] xx: the compiler to use, va=Visual Age ex=emx dive: the direct video feature of OS/2 udp: enable networking over udp (not yet for va). Note that for emx, the top makefile requires to know where the tools dir is (for things like os2.h, dive,h etc). You need to adjust the line at the top: TOOLSDIR=s:/ibmcpp/include/os2 Regards Eyal Lebedinsky ([email protected])
