Is there a desire to systematize the basic "Feelings" Mojis? #321
Comments
Perhaps I should be using some other Channel to communicate, converse on visions? We have tested now only down to age 7 with some good luck, my great hope so shape the project that we can teach to pre Natural LANGuage children. This is a very special age where learning can be rapid and easy. We are mapping to Multiple NatLANGS then at the phonetic level with such as Stories. Our very first story, for example, had great emphasis on "Arrogance" for which there is no Bliss Word - so some system of Emoji's will be necessary for us to make this Traditional Language Teaching PATH work. Then we are also looking to teach some basic Programming such as Changing "Actor" (worm, bird, cat, fox... :) ) Properties for: canJump?, canFly... we are based on a Game Platform, so perhaps you can see how this is going to work? |
This is the correct channel to raise this, however I think that this is outside the scope of this project. Your contributions in your issues are high quality and interesting, but it's difficult to see actionable steps we can take. I think the aim of the BLISS system (a universal language) is quite different to that of OpenMoji (a useful set of icons to add to written text). This is how I see it, @b-g correct me if I am mistaken |

I was originally thinking when posting here that "if not emotions then when to use Emoji" to extend Bliss for Children, but now I am not so sure who has what to learn from whom. I cannot think such refinement can be expressed with faces, or even with body language... |

We are moving ahead some on our ideas to Systematize things... found a large body of work around "Zones of Regulation" which assigns 4 Feelings to each of 4 Zones. The Zones are from Blue( low energy) to Red for danger. Using these colors is free for us, so this decision is easy! Of all things, Bliss is a system of 6,000 Symbols but, such as the mix of "Feelings" is not well or consistently constructed. Not surprising?! :) Here's my current block out where I use some props like Glasses, and try to use Body Language in an abbreviated, but systematic way, plus, of course, Eyes and Mouth. |

The vocabulary level in our game is now about 160, and at about 300 we will be adding STORIES that will rely on being able to represent some basic "Feelings". So we keep trying to do what we can do. We are mapping the symbols to various NatLANGS, we just added Icelandic, but in next days we will also have some words recorded for the Ojibwe First Nation of North American, but soon, any day, also Ga, and Akron of Ghana. Someday I want to hear the consensus best guess of experts of what Ancient Greek sounded like, or Ancient Norse (if even possible). |

Without "props", and colors, I think even the most expressive person is hard put to make more than about 20 unique "faces", see this series:
There is a concept of "Mood Map" using just 2 axis and I have had some limited success with mapping the 40 child recognition feelings to this map, Colors are automatically found using this technique:
We are a group of 7 people with various backgrounds from Bliss Language expertise, to Graphics Arts, to teaching, and many years of combined programming and now game-engine experience.
Before we begin to introduce OpenMoji images to our audience we will be doing considerable work toward "systematizing" and because our software is an ILE we should be able to experiment / do studies to determine, for example, if GIF files such as Facebook is using are effective with children as we expect they may be.
There are easily over 270 words dedicated to Feelings in the English Language. I have tried a 2 axis system, and a Mood Map method with only limited success for the 38 or so expressions I consider somewhat basic (can easily add >20 more?):
Now I have spent hours matching a basic set of 16 + the 40 also used above to a "Feelings Circle":
Trying to map an expression to all the Feelings does not seem necessary or desirable :)
However, using COLORS to reflect the "Family" and other visual cues seems highly desirable.
Note: Went to share this with a friend on Facebook and up came a set of Gif Emojis that really did seem to add critical recognition as things can be done such as nodding the head up and down, or from side to side, and rate could indicate degree of emphasis. As said previously I am looking for a strong visual separation between the Bliss Symbols (of which there are > 4,000) and some set of OpenMoji style vector paths to fill in certain weak spots, especially toward children.
