Would it be possible to change the transmission rate based on the current gps altitude? This could allow for a more effective recovery performance, while still maintaining energy efficiency when the need for location updates is less. My idea is that there would be a default transmission rate set in firmware, and thresholds set at specific altitudes for speeding up or slowing down the rate. I could see this being very useful for locating a payload at the end of flight, where when the payload goes below ~5km it transmits at a much higher rate, and then once it passes under a set altitude, say 1km, it would go into a foxhunting mode where it broadcasts once every 30 seconds or so. All these numbers would have to be variable based on the specific flight profile you are aiming for, but could be of great use for making payloads more energy efficient, while still getting a good final gps data point as low to the ground as possible and allowing them to sustain longer on the ground for a easier search and pickup.
