Another maintenance tool already running

I want to uninstall MSYS2 20141003 x86_x64 but I keep getting the message

"Waiting for maintenancetool"

Another maintenancetool instance is already running. Wait until it finishes, close it, or restart your system.

I can't find any instance of maintenancetool in the taskmanager, and restarting my system does not help.

I want to do the uninstall so I can reinstall using my D: hard-disk drive instead of my C: SSD.

Are you try uninstall from "Control Panel" or from MSYS2 folder?

Hmm, the documentation needs to be updated though. Otherwise I would close this.

I got this same problem (even after a reboot) trying to run maintenancetool directly in either cmd or using the msys2 terminal window. I used the task manager to kill a running maintenancetool and then was able to use it. Something had started maintenancetool.
