Here's an answer from @danimoh, our Ledger expert:
Firefox has become mostly incompatible in newer browsers versions or ledger firmware / app versions.
In Linux Firefox generally still seems to work for the Nimiq app.
In Windows, only communication with the nano x works in Firefox, the nano s not.
The bitcoin app (in newer versions?) generally does not seem to work in Firefox on any system.
The implementation that is used in Firefox has always caused a lot of problems and is now deprecated. I don't expect it to be fixed anymore by Ledger.
Instead Ledger is thinking about connecting to Ledgers from Firefox via a Bridge running in the background in Ledger Live. Once they implement this, we'll also support it.
In the meantime, maybe there should be some sort of warning on the page if you are using Firefox? It doesn't error in a way that looks like it's ledger's fault. It looks like it's nimiq's fault.
Also, maybe the documentation should be updated to inform people of this?

Note, I am not using incognito mode. I tried to do this in Chrome and it worked fine.
