is it possible to make it only show the preview of a post rather than the entire post on the front page?

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this message.

You should be able to do changing this line https://github.com/orlando/svbtle-jekyll/blob/master/_includes/post_index.html#L7 to {{ post.excerpt }}. That will should only the first paragraph of the post.
