This may help people who see the minifier trying to get its hands on JSON responses. Throw this in your app controller's beforeRender()

// if the response is HTML then minify it
if ($this->response->type() === 'text/html') {
    $this->helpers[] = 'MinifyHtml.MinifyHtml';
}
