Is the PCB project also available in a/the repo? #20

Would be interested too in the PCB schematics/board files, at least for the mini. |
No schematics at least? |
Not yet. I'm on the fence. I have a fear of getting inundated with
requests to help make them. (Like picking alternative parts, layout
changes, fabrication specs, etc). It's not a trivial task.

Well, my two cents: if someone is smart enough to make a new PCB from the schematics alone, he will be smart enough to figure out the manufacturing process, I guess. My main interest is to see how the T8 FPGA is connected and configured on the schematic. Yes, I know it´s just a matter to look and study the datasheet, but is a lot easier just follow someone´s path. ;) Congrats and thanks for this project! It´s really great to see those hard/impossible to find ICs recreated. |
Agree to DFL1973, it would make things quite easier to adapt the board for the own needs. For instance to modify component/connectors or placement or even add more grounding plane for the more analog-like signal traces - stuff like that. Nevertheless, also from me congrats to this awesome project! Received my Kawari Large Board today and the DVI output is absolutely stunning - never saw that precise coloring on a C64 before. :) Thx a lot for your efforts to make this possible! |
What about some disclaimer that people build it on their own responsibility and you don't have time to help individuals who didn't bought a unit that was sold as working (maybe give them some forum for brain storming). Is there a way to obtain gerbers personally (or buy PCBs alone from you) to play around and experience difficulties? Help to make would rather be mandatory for people you would allow to cooperate in production in early stage if there are any snags like critical propagation of some parts, although your boards doesn't look that hard to assemble (this is my design http://wiki.archi-tech.com.pl/pl/30T_cdtv that have propably the most components on board i ever designed and is hand soldered). |
Everything will be put out as open hardware before the end of the year.
Yes, there will be a disclaimer. I just have one more batch of the large
to take care of pre-orders. So maybe check back around Sep/Oct time frame?

Do you mean a full open source release or PCBs availability? In any case i'll try any form you're going to allow to build own unit. If i'll succeed in building working unit, i'll ask my friend if he would manufacture some for his retro-shop and then eventually share some revenues with you. |
I can't seem to find it. Would be cool to try and build and install this. I'm in for making some 3d-demo (using the new MUL) and maybe a slideshow with some nice pictures. I already developed a nice route to convert pictures to the virtual platform Chip-16 which would suit perfectly using this new 16 color 320x200 mode. Is there a VICE build that has a Kawari option in it? That would be very useful.
