When using the native lemmy-ui, you get the option to select your language. This defaults to the top listed language you have selected as an option for yourself. Usually this is "Undetermined"

I'd like the language dropdown available, and I'd also like to be able to select my default language so I can select "English"

There are also some people who speak more than one language. I think it would be great if we could select which languages appear in this select box. Or if it is possible in the API, ask the server or the community which languages are allowed.

It is possible to select which languages are in the box - you can set it under your profile. However, most comments have the language for that comment set to "Undetermined" because most people don't set the language when they're posting a comment. Because of this, you won't see most comments if you don't have "Undetermined" selected as one of your languages. If you do have it selected, though, it defaults to that so you end up being part of the problem of most comments having the language set to "Undetermined"
