"On January 21, 2025, Universal Lenders LLC filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after learning that it had been targeted in a cyberattack. In this notice, Universal Lenders explains that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access consumers’ sensitive information. Upon completing its investigation, Universal Lenders began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was affected by the recent data security incident.
The Universal Lenders data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Universal Lenders’ filing with the Attorney General of Maine provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 7, 2025, Universal Lenders experienced a disruption to its computer network. In response, Universal Lenders secured its systems and then launched an investigation with the help of outside cybersecurity experts.
On December 5, 2024, Universal Lenders’ investigation confirmed that certain files containing confidential consumer information were accessed and possibly acquired by an unauthorized party.
After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Universal Lenders reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Universal Lenders completed this review process on January 14, 2025."
