Hello,
are the scriptaculous js files like scriptaculous/builder.js , scriptaculous/effects.js , scriptaculous/dragdrop.js , scriptaculous/controls.js , scriptaculous/slider.js still needed with magento-boilerplate?

I desactivated them in the layout.xml no noticable problems appear...
Do someone know where this js libs are used in frontend magento?

Some are, some aren't. In the upcoming 3.0 version of this project, these are removed. Feel free to remove them in your own local.xml in the future. I'm only planning on implementing security patches in the 2.x version of this project until such a time as I release 3.0. At that point, I'll try iron out any small improvements and set an EOL for 2.x.
