And the available PDF isn't downloading for me in Chrome. I didn't investigate either, so there might be some Connector bugs here.

Can you still reproduce the Firefox metadata saving issue? It's working fine for me.

The PDF isn't saving because the link goes to a reader page with a custom JS PDF reader. The page includes <link rel="preload" href="https://core.ac.uk/download/234631160.pdf" as="fetch" type="application/pdf" crossorigin="anonymous"/> and <meta name="citation_pdf_url" content="https://core.ac.uk/download/234631160.pdf"/> - I'm not too familiar with our PDF download code, but I thought at least the second should be detected.
