Post By Email: Password shortcode has no effect

The Post By Email Jetpack support doc at ​http://jetpack.me/support/post-by-email/ used to mention the [password] shortcode (currently removed from there), as detailed here as well: ​http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/#shortcodes

The shortcode doesn't work. Sending an email with it does not password-protect a post on a Jetpack-connected site.

Re-tested with 6.3-beta. The issue still there
