Thanks to their clingy toe pads, Geckos are able to stick to any surface with the exception of Teflon. They are even able to walk on water using a mix of surface tension and surface slapping. Contrary to popular belief, geckos don't have sticky toes. They are able to scale things easily due to nanoscale hairs known as setae that line their toes. The 6.5 setae on a Gecko can generate enough force to support the weight of two humans!
The eyes of a Gecko may look creepy to some, but they are quite useful to the Gecko. Since Geckos are nocturnal creatures, their eyes are well adapted to the dark. They are able to discriminate colors in moonlight where we would be pretty much blind. Their eyes are about 350 times better at detecting and distinguishing between colors than we humans. What does this mean? Well, in the moonlight where we would be able to barely see, geckos would still be able to see a colorful world! Their eyes also don't have eyelids, so they have to lick them every once in a while to keep them clean and moist. Imagine having to do that.
Were you able to make out the Gecko in the image above? You might have, but a predator would not be able to. Geckos can blend into their environment without even looking around. They sense, rather than see their surroundings to blend in. Their skin contains light-sensitive proteins known as opsins which help them blend into their surroundings.
A gecko can be a great low-maintenance pet to have. They are a great beginner pet and are pretty cheap. They can even be left alone for a couple of days and be fine. Geckos like warm and stable temperatures and eat crickets, worms, grasshoppers, and many general insects. If you want to learn more about Geckos as pets check out this website.
