This (now working!) PR exposes an optional parameter for specifying a custom font for label text. example:
["xxx{label_text=Teetotum,label_orient=y-x+,label_hoffset=0.5,label_font=Consolas}xxx|x..xxx|x...xx|xx...x|xxxxxx|xxxxxx",]
