Hi there, I'm Jun Koo! 👋

A little bit about me: I did my undergraduate at the Georgia Institute of Technology where I received my degree in Chemical Engineering.
During my senior design project, I noticed that I was much more interested in the coding aspects of the project than the chemical engineering side.
Now I'm trying to independently learn Python and other languages to switch career paths and ultimately land a data scientist/engineering job.

Index of Personal Projects

Python Projects:

  1. Sudoku - Uses a backtracking algorithm to create a fully solvable Sudoku board which is then mapped to a fully interactable GUI. Comes with a solver button that preserves your inputs if they were correct and a new button that creates an entirely new puzzle.
  2. Online Weather Scraper with GUI - Retrieves week's weather forecast using Weather.gov's api and displays it using a GUI

Data Visualization:

  1. US COVID-19 Vaccine Progress - Takes US CDC data on COVID-19 vaccinations in the US and displays them on a color scale applied to a map of the US

Data Science and Machine Learning:

CommonLit Readability Competition - ▪ Utilize machine learning techniques to rate the reading grade level (grades 3-12) of a series of excerpts from various texts ▪ Utilizes Pytorch and Huggingface’s Transformers library to train and finetune roBERTa on competition data ▪ Top 6% of Submissions

Basics:
Titanic: Machine Learning From Disaster - Classification Project: Create a model that predicts whether a Titanic passenger survived or not. Housing Prices Competition - Regression Project: Create a model that predicts housing prices in Ames, Iowa. Natural Language Processing with Disaster Tweets - NLP project: Utilize transfer learning with Facebook's roBERTa NLP model to determine if a Twitter tweet indicates a disaster happened or not
