Originally I made an experimental webcam assembly with four webcams that I wanted to take panorama shots with. For some reason it was more convenient to do the interface in Emacs.
Then I figured it would be interesting to have a visual remember mode for org, org-emmental.
Then it also occured to me that it would be nice to have an Emacs interface to my Canon EOS system camera.
So all of that would be nice but not much is in place yet.
emmental.el uses fswebcam to talk to the camera. It used to be finnicky to get working, but as of Fedora 16 I just installed it from the repository and it worked out of the box!

;; The original use case for this library was the code snippet below. ;; it takes a bunch of snaps from several different webcams and ;; inserts them in a buffer.
;; (progn ;; (pop-to-buffer “emmental”) ;; (erase-buffer) ;; (clear-image-cache) ;; (emmental-capture-and-preview “0” “0”) ;; (emmental-capture-and-preview “2” “1”) ;; (emmental-capture-and-preview “1” “2”) ;; )
