Counting Pigs with tensorRT yolov7 and Python on Jetson Nano

20230627_114739.online-video-cutter.com.mp4

This is repository with complete tutorial on how to make a computer vision object counter application using Jetson Nano, TensorRT, YOLOv7 tiny in Python. I also included scripts to custom train your YOLOv7tiny on Google Colab.

All code on Jetson Nano runs in Docker container. No hassle with compiling OpenCV with CUDA and searching for right PyTorch version for Jetson Nano.

Comes with preinstalled:

  • PyTorch
  • TorchVision
  • OpenCV (with CUDA)
  • Numpy
  • Seaborn
  • Filterpy

How to train your own YOLOv7 Tiny model to be used on Jetson Nano

  1. Annotate images using CVAT. Download annotations in YOLO format. Make sure image names match annotations (.txt): example: 1.jpg and 1.txt, 101.jpg and 101.txt etc.

  2. Split your data into validation and test group. Create 2 folders: val and training on your computer. Go inside both of them and create labels and images folders in val and training, so you have val/images, val/labels, training/images, training/labels. Split in ratio like 70% in train and 30% in val or 80% in train and 20% in val.

You will copy those 2 folders inside data folder of official YOLOv7 repository on your Google Drive.

  1. Use Train-yolov7-tiny.ipynb script to train your model. When you come to step number 5 come here and see NOTE section.

NOTE: When you clone official yolov7 repository, make this changes:

  • Copy val and training folders to data folder inside yolov7 repository on Google Drive.
  • Inside data folder edit custom_data.yaml like this (if you have 2 classes: people and pigs):
train: ./data/training
val: ./data/val
# number of classes
nc: 2
# class names
names: [ 'pig','person']
  • Inside cfg/training folder find yolov7-tiny.yaml and create a copy. Name it yolov7-tiny-custom.yaml. Modify it according to your custom model (number of parameters - nc):
# parameters
nc: 2 # number of classes

  • Create a folder test inside data folder /data/test/ and put images and videos you will use later to test your model.
  1. After you do all of this you can proceed with step number 5.

  2. When you are done with training, reparametrize the model. I prepared a script for YOLOv7-tiny model (Reparameterization_yolov7_tiny.ipynb). Again make sure all paths to required files are correct.

Reparametrized model will be saved in cfg/deploy/ folder as yolov7-tiny-rep-best.pt file.

  1. Download your new .pt model. You will need it on Jetson Nano, when converting it to TensorRT engine.

How to use it on Jetson Nano

  1. Clone yolov7-counter-jetson-nano repository:
git clone https://github.com/spehj/yolov7-counter-jetson-nano.git
cd yolov7-counter-jetson-nano
  1. Build docker image and run in interactive mode (Make sure you adjust the path according to your settings):
sudo docker build -t yolo-image .
xhost + # Make sure to use this to be able to display image from container
sudo docker run -it --rm --runtime nvidia --network host -v /home/vision/yolov7-counter-jetson-nano/:/trt yolo-image
  1. Make sure you add your tensorRT engine, eg. your own shared library file (example: libmyplugins.so) and .engine file in yolov7-counter-jetson-nano directory.

If you don't have it yet, follow this tutorial.

  1. Add your video in yolov7-counter-jetson-nano directory on your Nano.

  2. Modify python scripts to use your own video here:

PLUGIN_LIBRARY = "libmyplugins.so"
engine_file_path = "yolov7-tiny-rep-best.engine"
video_path = "pigs-trimmed-without-person.mp4"
  1. You can choose singlethreading or multithreading script to run your counter. Multithreading should be a few FPS faster in total, but still needs some improvement.
